Infection in wounds can be a very serious thing and if not discovered right away could result in even more problems. It is best to discover infections in wounds right away, but first you must know what to look for. Here are some key tips to know how to spot infection in wounds.
Step 1 Look at the wound and feel it. If it feels hot to touch, this could be a sign of infection, as warmth happens due to infection fighting blood cells being sent to the site of infection.
Step 2 You may have a fever.
Step 3 Examine your wound for swelling and lumpiness. If it becomes swollen there is a good chance it can be infected.
Step 4 Check your wound for redness. While some redness is expected, the redness should gradually disappear through the next couple of days. If you see red streaks or redness that is not going away, you may want to have it checked by a doctor.
Step 5 Pus may be apparent.
Step 6 Question how your wound feels. If the pain is not decreasing through the day and is instead increasing, it is likely an infection.
