When it comes to weight loss tips, one of the most followed is the idea that drinking more water will help you shed those pounds. Loads of fitness gurus and health experts have spoken out about how much good water does for our systems. Another very water specific statement has also been circulating the Internet, the idea that drinking cold water will help you increase your calorie burning rates. With all of this information out in the open for us, it should be a no-brainer to continue to add more water into our daily routine, especially for weight loss concerns.
However, Dr. Beth Kitchin – a nutritionist expert at the University of Alabama, has stepped forward against the notion that water has any effect on weight loss. Speaking directly with the Daily Mail, Dr. Kitchin stated that water is not the magic potion that will help you drop those pounds in a flash. In fact, she even states that there is not enough evidence to prove that drinking cold water will contribute to an increased caloric burn rates. So what does this all mean? It seems that Dr. Kitchin’s statements contradict some of the biggest published studies in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. The journal states that drinking two cups of water 20-30 minutes before your meal can help you to lose weight by helping to suppress your appetite.
So what’s the final verdict? Although there may be many contradicting views on whether water can help us lose weight or not, there is no disputing how beneficial water is to our overall health.

With the smoothie craze running rampant lately, it’s become no surprise that everybody has been going crazy over chia seeds. In fact, we’ve been seeing people toss in chia seeds into just about everything. The Internet has sworn to us that these tiny little seeds are filled with crazy amounts of nutrients, even deeming chia seeds a ‘superfood.’ But what if the Internet is wrong? It seems that a lot of the information we have available about chia seeds is not exactly scientifically backed up. In fact, it seems that a decent amount of the info has been overly exaggerated.
In one of the latest articles from Refinery 29, RDN and spokesperson for The Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics, Kim Larson, spoke out about chia seeds and their actual benefits. “Much of the hype is really overblown for chia seeds. Very little research has been done on them.” There has, however, been one major study conducted on chia seeds back in 2012 when researchers had participants eat chia seeds every day for 10 weeks. The results showed very little for claims regarding blood pressure and lowered cholesterol. The researchers did note that what the chia seeds do have going for them is a significant amount of important fatty acids.
“I look at chia as a nutrient ‘booster’ — like all seeds,” says Larson. “They are easy to use, quick, and convenient, and they add a small hit of nutrition. When used consistently, that can add up.”
