Stress Management

The Right Way To Start Your Day

Have you been running around each morning with a crazy amount of stress bringing you down? Need a pick-me-up each day just to function normally? Well, then you’ve been starting your mornings all wrong. When it comes to starting your day off right, nutritionist, chef, and Vitasoy ambassador, Zoe Bingley-Pullin, has all of the right starting tips. Follow through on Zoe’s morning routine to feel your very best as soon as you hop out of bed.

Zoe’s first step for her morning routine consists of drinking 1 liter of water before she leaves the house. “It’s important to drink at least 2L of water each day to balance your fluids, flush out toxins and keep your skin looking hydrated.” she says. “I keep a liter water bottle beside my bed so I can grab it and start hydrating as soon as I wake up.”

The second step in Zoe’s morning routine is to meditate or stretch for at least 5 – 10 minutes. If you’re unsure of how to meditate on your own, Zoe suggests simply finding a quite area in your home where you can sit and just focus on your breathing.

Finally, Zoe is quiet adamant about not leaving the house before having a healthy breakfast meal. “If you skip breakfast, you’re setting yourself up for blood sugar highs and lows all day – not great news if you’re running on an on-the-go schedule,” Zoe says. So prepare a fruit and vegetable smoothie in the morning, have a yogurt, or make yourself some avocado toast just to give you that initial kick-start energy you’ll need.

Costco Issues A Huge Frozen Vegetable Recall

There’s a bad news alert for customers that have been relying on Costco for all of their frozen vegetable needs. It seems that this week, an entire line of frozen vegetables was recalled due to a possible listeria contamination. The brand in question happens to be CRF Frozen Foods, with their frozen mixed vegetables, green peas, and sweet corn all being recalled. If CRF Frozen Foods doesn’t ring a bell with you, then you may recognize the brand by their different names such as True Goodness By Meijer, Wellsley Farms Organic, Organic By Nature, Organic By Nature – Canada, and Schwan’s.

A long list of states happen to be affected by this recall, some of which include: Alabama, California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, and West Virginia. You can find a complete list of the affected states on the FDA’s official site. The Canadian provinces that happen to be affected are: Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan. Luckily for all those in the affected areas, the recall was simply a precaution as the frozen vegetables could have possibly been contaminated. Listeria is a serious problem for women who are pregnant, the elderly, and those who may have a compromised immune system.

So far there have been no reported incidents of listeria contamination from anyone. The symptoms of listeria include vomiting, fever, and diarrhea. If you happen to be experiencing these symptoms contact a medical professional.

Life Expectancy Rates Have Dropped For White Women In The U.S.

A new study report released by the CDC has found that life expectancy rates have dropped for White women living in the U.S. While the overall consensus regarding men and women as a whole has not really dropped in the past couple of years, the results began to waver when the study began to break down the results into different races. It seems that white women have gotten a slightly smaller decline in life expectancy, a number that hasn’t been seen since back in 2005. The results for women of Hispanic and Black heritage were quite different, with life expectancy rising amongst both groups.

When the study looked into the life expectancy rates of White men, there was once against a slight decrease. However, the decrease was so slight that it showed up as no real difference in the data. The opposite was once again seen with Black and Hispanic men, as their life expectancy rates elevated slightly. Due to the concern regarding the slight drop in life expectancy, Elizabeth Arias, PhD, the researcher who created the report, decided to look into the cause of death for many of these women. It seems that the drop in life expectancy occurred due to an increase in suicides, drug overdoes, and liver diseases amongst white females in the U.S.

Although this new may seem a bit alarming to some females out there, you don’t have a real reason to worry, as the life expectancy throughout the United States is still higher than it’s ever been!

Lead Poisoned Drinking Water Is A Serious Problem For The U.S.

Unfortunate news regarding water and lead poisoned water in the drinking water of the U.S. has been released. Ever since the Flint water crisis made headline news, a water investigation not only in Flint, MI but also throughout the entire U.S. has been conducted. With the disappointing reaction to the Flint water crisis, the USA Today Network decided to do some investigative research into the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) data. The information that the news network discovered was alarming to say the least, as nearly 20% of the nation’s water test fails to meet the standards of the Lead and Copper Rule.

With such high levels of lead contamination in the drinking water of many, lead poisoning becomes once again a big issue to battle against. Lead poisoning is especially harmful to babies and young children as they are still in their developmental stages. Even the lowest amount of exposure to lead in a young child can lead to huge developmental issues such as a lowered IQ, attention deficit disorders, and learning problems. In adults, however, lead exposure overtime can cause problems such as high blood pressure, mood disorders, and even headaches. So what can all of us do to avoid lead poisoning through our drinking water?

Well, one step is to have your water in your home tested. Calling the EPA’s safe drinking water hotline will help put you in touch with a servicer available in your area. Checking annual CCR reports is another great way to find out details about your area’s water source and contamination levels.

This Woman Clapped Back At The Internet Body-Shaming Trolls

It seems that the Internet has taken it upon itself to go about body-shaming another woman on social media. Whether it’s telling a woman she’s ‘too fat’ or to go ‘eat a sandwich,’ the Internet is notorious for putting their opinions into other people’s lives. This week, the trolls came out on an Instagram engagement photoshoot involving a newly engaged couple. The couple was Ghanaian nurse, Mzznaki Tetteh, and her now fiancé, Kojo Amoah. The photos of the couple celebrating their engagement went viral on the Instagram, something that Tetteh did not expect to happen at all.

While a good majority of the comments were congratulatory messages aimed at the couple, there were still some that felt the need to rain on their parade with derogatory comments. According to a post made by Buzzfeed, users were going about leaving comments such as, “she needs to lose weight,” “I’m happy for her but I don’t want to support this because being obese isn’t good for her,” and even ruthless comments like, “you can see the struggle in his face.” However, despite the ongoing harassment from the Internet trolls, Tetteh continued to stay strong and smile in her hater’s faces. Tetteh responded by posting a photo of herself with the caption, “Still confident…your rubbish comments ain’t ruining my happiness…thanks to all for the compliments and best wishes…am honored.”

Her fiancé also had a word to say to the Ghana web, stating, “I am so proud of my woman and I don’t care about what anybody says out there.”
